GRAND CANYON, AZ - Shortly after departing Honga Springs Camp (XIV) we pass the ominous Vulcan's Anvil at mile 178. It's a large chunk of lava forming its own island and is a warning of the massive Lava Falls Rapid just down river.
GRAND CANYON, AZ - We pass from morning shadow to light in the calm waters just above Lava Falls Rapid at mile 179.
GRAND CANYON, AZ - From our scouting vantage point, we watch Larry battle his way through the torrent that is Lava Falls Rapid (Mile 179) along river left where the infamous "Cheese Grater" has been known to tear rafts to ribbons in seconds.
